ULTHERAPY (Ulthera HIFU) - The Non-invasive Lift

Ultherapy is the only non-invasive procedure FDA-cleared to lift skin on the neck, under the chin and on the eyebrow. Now also FDA-cleared to improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the décolleté. Ultherapy can help you achieve a fresher, more youthful look from your brow to your chest!

Builds New Collagen

The Ultherapy procedure stimulates collagen production by delivering focused ultrasound energy to the deeper layers of the skin. And underlying supporting tissues – these are usually the structures typically addressed in cosmetic surgery – but without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin. The discrete areas of controlled dermal damage created at the point of focus of the Ulthera HIFU energy stimulate wound healing with neocollagenesis and elastinogenesis, tightening and lifting the target areas.

ULTHERAPY (Ulthera HIFU) - No Downtime. Natural Results

Some patients see an initial effect right after their treatment. But the real results appear over 2-3 months as new collagen works with the remodelling process to lift and tighten skin on the neck, chin and brow as well as smooth skin on the chest. While Ultherapy won’t duplicate the results of a facelift, it’s a clinically proven non-invasive alternative for those not ready for surgery, and can even be an option for patients who wish to extend the effects of cosmetic surgery.

Safe Ultrasound – No Surgery

Ultherapy harnesses the power of ultrasound to transform the brow, chin, neck and chest. Ultrasound, of course, has been used safely throughout the medical field for more than 50 years. And Ultherapy has been established as safe and effective in clinical studies and in over half a million treatments worldwide.

ULTHERAPY (Ulthera HIFU) - No Toxins or Needles

Unlike lasers, radio frequency, surgery and other technologies, non-surgical Ultherapy bypasses the surface of the skin to deliver the right amount of ultrasound energy at the right depths and the right temperature. This energy triggers a natural response under the skin, jumpstarting the regenerative process that produces fresh, new collagen.

Safe for darker skin types

Darker skin types, such as Asian skin and other skin of colour, have a propensity to form pigmented areas. Following any damage to the upper layer of the skin, the epidermis, resulting in inflammation there. But particularly at the layer where the epidermis meets the dermis, the dermoepidermal junction. This inflammatory process excites the melanin-producing cells in the basal layer of the epidermis. The melanocytes, and they are triggered to overproduce melanin as part of the skin’s protective function following damage, just like a suntan following sunburn. This is called postinflammatory hyperpigmentation, or PIH, and can be a major side effect following laser procedures even in lighter skin types. With Ulthera HIFU, the ultrasound beams which are transmitted through the epidermis and upper dermis are still harmless. And do not cause any heat, because they have not reached the point of focus. The damage is therefore limited to areas of the dermis well below the epidermis. And so PIH is not a problem, Ultherapy is therefor suitable for darker skin types, and even for the tanned skin.

ULTHERAPY (Ulthera HIFU)

What is Ultherapy HIFU from Ulthera?

The Ulthera system delivers deep-penetrating ultrasound energy, based on the same technology that lets us look safely inside the womb to see the growing foetus.

And as a diagnostic tool for a variety of conditions in the organs of the body, such as the kidney, liver and so on. Ultrasound is another form of energy like light, where the waves are of high frequency sound, hence ultrasound.

We can take a magnifying glass and focus the light from the sun onto a small point of extremely powerful light energy. It is capable of setting fire to a leaf, burning through paper and skin.

However, before the sunlight enters the lens, and just after it has exited the lens, the sunlight is harmless. The same principle is used in high intensity focused ultrasound or Ulthera HIFU.

A number of beams of intersecting ultrasound energy are focused by an ‘acoustic lens’ onto the target tissue (as in the illustration above). Each beam can pass through the tissue over the target without causing any harm. But at the point of focus, the intense acoustic energy generates a powerful thermal effect.

When that is focused into the deeper layers of our skin, it generates heat and creates controlled mild coagulative damage to the coarser collagen fibres in these deeper layers.

This kick-starts the wound healing process, creating new collagen and elastin fibres which are then remodeled to lift and tighten the target tissue. Targets include any part of the body with skin laxity: the face, neck, décolleté, even the arms, legs, abdomen and so on.

In conclusion, Ultherapy uses safe, time-tested ultrasound energy to lift and tighten the skin naturally: without surgery; without downtime; and without knives or injections.

Ultheraphy (HIFU) FAQ's
The Ultherapy procedure has been used in over 620,000 treatments worldwide, and more are added every month. We in Bella Pelle have undergone extensive procedural training so you can feel confident choosing Ultherapy in our clinic. Ultherapy is the only micro-focused ultrasound technology that has been reviewed and cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The skin might appear flushed at first, but the redness should disappear within a few hours. Some clients experience slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to the touch, but these are temporary in nature.

Other, less common post-procedural effects may include temporary bruising or numbness on small areas of skin. As with any aesthetic medical procedure, there is the possibility for other rare effects, which your practitioner will review with you.

We can add a 14-minute HEALITE low level light therapy (LED-LLLT) treatment after your Ultherapy session: this has been found to help eliminate any mild discomfort in addition to improving the result.

In order for Ultherapy to work it has to heat the deep layers of the skin. Everybody will have different sensitivities to this heat. We will advise you on how to manage the discomfort in the way that is best for you at your consultation.

These are both important building blocks within our skin. Collagen is a protein that is abundant in our skin and is important in providing strength and stability through the cross-linked bundles of collagen fibres. Collagen is produced by special cells (called fibroblasts) but over time our skin loses some of its collagen, contributing to skin laxity and sagging.

Elastin is a highly elastic protein in skin, which is also made by the fibroblasts and which forms elastic fibres, rather like thick rubber bands. These maintain skin elasticity and allow the skin to return to its original position when it is poked, pinched or stretched.

Again, as we age, our skin loses some elastin so that the elastic fibres lose their elasticity, which also contributes to sagging and laxity. Since our faces are constantly subjected to movement and pressure (when we smile, sleep, talk, shout, cry, laugh or sing) the loss of elastin and collagen really can take its toll

The natural wound healing process triggered by Ultherapy helps rebuild the skin’s fibrous matrix with young, healthy collagen and elastic fibres, turning back the skin’s ageing clock from within.

The length of the treatment will depend on the area being treated and your individual treatment plan. A face and neck procedure takes 60–90 minutes, while a chest treatment takes approximately 30 minutes.

Most clients need one treatment. However, based on the degree of skin laxity, the biological response to ultrasound energy and the individual’s collagen-building process, some clients benefit from additional treatments.

Because skin continues to age, future touch-up treatments can help patients keep pace with the body’s natural ageing process. In Bella Pelle we can complement Ultherapy with low-level light therapy using the HEALITE LED system, which will accelerate the repair process and possibly prolong the results.

You may see some initial lift, immediately after treatment as the heal generated by Ultherapy shrinks the target collagen. The ultimate results, however, will take place over 2–3 months, as the growth of new collagen and elastin replaces old tissue targeted by the treatment.

And the remodelling process makes sure they are optimally aligned and tightened. A single Ultherapy treatment can give a lasting effect for over a year in some people and your consultant will advise on the likely outcomes for you.

After an Ultherapy treatment, you can resume your usual lifestyle and activities immediately without having to follow any special post-treatment measures.

It has to be said that Ultherapy does not duplicate the results of a facelift, but it does lift and tighten the treated skin as you can see from the before and after examples below.

On the other hand, Ultherapy may be used before, or as an alternative to surgery and after surgery to maintain the effects. Unlike surgery, it also has the added benefit of allowing you to resume your usual lifestyle and activities immediately after the treatment session.

Ultherapy uses ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen production in the skin’s foundation, resulting in a clinically significant lift of tissue over 2-3 months. Lasers rely on light energy, which typically involves some damage to the upper layers of the skin, resulting in a certain degree of downtime.

Ultherapy’s ultrasound energy is safely transmitted through the skin with no superficial damage to reach depths of focus between 1.5 mm and 4.5 mm. This means that no downtime is required after the treatment. Since the two technologies often treat different types of skin issues, they can be compatible.

We have a large range of laser systems in Bella Pelle, and we firmly believe in the concept of combination because no one system can usually achieve perfection. Once we assess your skin we can advise you what is best for you.
