What is Lip Enhancement / Lip Fillers ?

A good lip enhancement is not only about improving the vermillion. To maintain a good balance of the overall appearance of lips, fine upper lip lines must be corrected and lift the corners of the mouth.

The lip enhancement procedure usually uses dermal fillers, which may be temporary or permanent. We make sure that every procedure performed on your lips results to a natural overall appearance.

Before & After

Improve your smile and freshen your face with plumper, softer and smoother looking lips. Lip enhancement using dermal fillers is growing in popularity among individuals of all ages looking to rejuvenate their smile. This treatment is quick, sage and effective and requires no downtime.

It is not only plump and firm the lips, but also they reduce the appearance of fine vertical lines above the mouth, define the lip line, prevent lipstick bleeding, and even create a upwards turn to the corner of your mouth.

The ‘ideal lip’ shape and a beautiful lip should include:

  • Size-wise, the top lip should ideally be 1/3 of the entire size of the lips, while the bottom lip is made up of the remaining 2/3’s.
  • The vermilion border is the original lip liner. It’s the thin line between the lip and the facial skin that defines the entire shapes of the lips.
  • The Cupid’s bow, or the v-shape in the upper lip, creates a prominent, pouty look.
  • The corners of the mouth, or the labial commissure’s, are ideally slightly upturned creating a naturally sultry look.
  • Fullness and volume

Lip fillers are made from complex sugar chains also known as Hyaluronic Acid (HA) and are combined with a unique stabilization process, which gives these products structure and longevity. HA is found in the body where its main role is to attract water and provide hydration to the skin. The products are designed to resemble your body’s own natural HA and ca help revitalize your lips with a treatment that can:

  • Restore fullness to the lips.
  • Correct asymmetries and restore balance to the lips.
  • Soften lines and wrinkles around the lips.
  • Add shape and volume to naturally think-shaped lips.
At the Bella Pelle Cosmetic Clinic, you will have a thorough consultation first to review your medical history and assess your suitability for the lip filler treatment. We listen to your concerns and what you are looking to achieve from the treatment. We will then discuss treatment options and agree a treatment plan with you.

The lip filler treatment itself involves application of a numbing cream to numb the lips, so that the treatment is comfortable.

A tiny needle is placed into the lips or lipstick lines to give the desired results. Some gentle molding is done as part of the treatment. The process usually takes around 20mins. There is usually some swelling after the treatment; this can be reduced with the application of an ice pack. We may ask you to do this for a few minutes after the treatment.

It might be difficult to believe from the horror stories out there, but lip filler treatment is not that painful. Of course, the discomfort level will mostly depend on your own pain tolerance.

At Bella Pelle Cosmetic Clinic, we can apply an effective numbing cream that acts quickly and also inject very gently. The lip filler even has a dose of the painkiller lidocaine mixed in the gel, which will further help to numb the area.

Lip fillers are a cosmetic treatment, and like all medical procedures, there is always a chance that something could go wrong. However, if performed by experienced and qualified practitioners, it is a safe procedure.
Lip fillers have been well researched for almost 20 years and millions of treatments have been performed globally. Serious side effects are not common.

The most common post-treatment reaction is slight redness, swelling, itching, bruising or slight pain and tenderness. These reactions usually disappear shortly after each injection. If these become troublesome or persistent, contact your cosmetic practitioner.

Initially, there is some swelling and the lips may feel bigger than you would like. However, please bear in mind that the swelling will soon go down to reveal the final result. This usually takes a week to 2 weeks but can take longer. We may advise you to apply arnica cream to reduce bruising but it also helps to hydrate the lips as the swelling settles.

Occasionally, you may be able to feel the lip filler, in which case gentle massage may be helpful. We are always here to support you after the treatment so anything you are concerned about, you can always return for review. We have seen many cases of lip filler treatments, which have been done at other places that have resulted in visible bead like lumps in the lips. This is not normal and is due to poor technique! The filler should not end up as lumpy nodules in the lips. It should be integrated softly into the lips.

Similarly for the smoker’s lines, the filler should give a reduction in the lines without producing speed bumps above the lips!

The treatment itself involves injections using very fine needles to introduce the filler into the lips or lipstick lines. Therefore some pin-point bleeding is to be expected. This stops very quickly.
The effects of lip fillers are long lasting but not permanent. The longevity of these products is dependent on a few factors. There are several different formulations of HA fillers which are designed specifically for different areas on the face. These fillers vary in thickness, and typically we use the thinnest formulation to maintain a natural look. The longevity of lip fillers is also dependent on the metabolism of the person who has received the lip treatment. People with faster metabolisms will break down the product, however, on average we see the product lasting around 6-9 months.

After your initial treatment, follow up sessions are usually recommended to maintain results.

There is no time limitation on having HA fillers injected again. Touching up fillers before the previous fillers have completely been reabsorbed is recommended. After getting filler and loving the results, why let the result completely go away before getting a touch up?

Once it has diminished to the degree that you wish additional correction, it is absolutely safe to proceed with additional filler injection. A touch up of lip fillers can be administered 6 to 8 weeks after the initial treatment to help build up the lip area. The first couple of treatments will sort of create a foundation and they should try to keep up with touch ups, before the entire foundation has broken down. The body slowly degrades the HA filler, at which point more is needed to maintain the benefits.

It is always best to “top it up” to maintain the lips you have always desired to have.
